Goddess Durga was created by Thrimurthi (Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara) by combining their strength and giving a physical form. Lord Himavan gifted her with lion upon which she rides. She was created to kill Mahishasura, as this asura became all-powerful and started threatening life in universe. She is worshipped as a warrior Goddess. She is worshipped as protector from demonic forces that threaten peace, dharma and prosperity.
Goddess Durga is in the North-West corner of sanctum sanctorum.
Floral tribute, anointing with Kumkumam, Saraswathi pooja are the normal offerings. Bhagavathi Seva is performed as main pooja. Samooha Bhagavathi Seva on the last day of Ramayana Maasa is also a very important pooja. During Navarathri days, “Dashabhava Charthu” is performed. On Vijaya Dashami day, Vidyarambham is performed and Saraswatham ghee is offered as prasaadam.
