NAGARAJA

"Ohm Nagarajaya Namah"

NAGARAJA

Worship of Naga (Snake or Sarpa) is described in Rig, Yajur and Atharva Vedas, progressively, with Atharva Veda giving more details of Naga worship. Based on the positions of Rahu and Ketu, people can have Sarpa dosha. These doshas can lead to difficulties in finance, mental and physical health. To overcome these doshas Nagas are worshipped. There are eight Nagas of importance (Ashta Naga) which are worshipped. Aayilyam is the star on which poojas are performed for Nagas.

Outside the premises of sanctum sanctorum, in the North Eastern side Naga Raja and Naga Laxmi are installed.

In every Malayalam month on Aayilyam star “Aaayilya pooja” is conducted. Other than this, on Aayilyam festivals in Vettikkottu and Mannaarashhala temples, “Noorum Paalum” is the main offering.
