GANAPATHY

"Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha"

GANAPATHY

Lord Ganapathi is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. He represents wisdom (elephant head) and wealth and prosperity (pot belly). His trunk curled to his right is indicative of him being more inclined towards spirituality and is normally worshipped in temples. The idol with the trunk pointing to the heart indicates material world and is worshipped in homes. Lord Ganapthi is worshipped to remove obstacles in our path of attaining glory.

In the temple, Ganapathi is installed in the South-West corner of sanctum sanctorum. The South-West corner is known as “Kanni moola”. Lord Ayyappa, main deity of the temple, reigns supreme in the sanctum sanctorum.

Ganapathi homam, garland with lemon, and flowers are the main offering. On Vinayaka Chaturthi day “Samooha Ganapathi Homam” with 108 coconuts, Abhishekam are performed and Unniyappam is offered.
